IMPORTANT NOTICE ON PAYMENT OF 2022 ANNUAL BAR PRACTICING FEES
As you may already be aware, the National Executive Council (“NEC”) of the Nigerian Bar Association (“NBA”), at its last NEC meeting held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on the 16th day of December 2021, resolved that manual Bar Practicing Fee (“BPF”) payments be jettisoned. Consequently, BPF payments can only be made through the NBA Online Payment Portal, with effect from the 1st day of January 2022. Members can now make individual or group payments through the Portal.

STATEMENT OF THE NBA PRESIDENT, MR. OLUMIDE AKPATA, ON THE REFUSAL OF PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI TO ASSENT TO THE ELECTORAL ACT (AMENDMENT) BILL 2021
You may recall that the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Bar Association (“NBA”) at its recent meeting at Abeokuta, Ogun State, called on the President of Nigeria- Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) to assent to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, 2021. However, the NBA and Nigerians at large, received with mixed feelings the decision of the president declining assent to the historic Bill on a number of grounds.

RE: Establishment of NBA Stabilisation Fund and Commencement of Access to Finance Scheme For Lawyers
As I mentioned to you during the NBA electioneering campaigns in 2020, the need for a stabilisation or “rainy-day” fund for an association like ours cannot be overemphasized. Leading Bar Associations around the world have, over the years, set aside significant amounts that they can resort to for their major expenses, especially when there is a considerable fluctuation in their revenues.  I therefore campaigned on the importance of a savings culture and proper investment of our funds at the NBA as a way to not only growing our assets base, but also minimizing interference from external bodies that may have a stronghold on the Association on account of funding, donations, and grants.
