My name is Mas’ud Mobolaji Alabelewe, born on the 30th day of May 1969 in Ilorin. I attended Ansarul Islam Primary School between 1976 to 1981, from where I proceeded to the prestigious Government Secondary School, Ilorin for my secondary education between 1981 to 1986 and thereafter attended the then School of Basic Studies in the then Kwara State College of Technology now Kwara State polytechnic from 1986 to 1988. I proceeded to the University of Maiduguri where I bagged my LLB. Hons in 1992 and Nigerian Law school, Lagos and was called to the bar in December 1993.

I served the nation in the famous law office of Gbanga Atoki & Co of LL.16 Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna as my place of NYSC Primary Assignment. I was retained and had pupilage in the firm till 1998. I established the firm of Mas’ud Alabelewe & Co in November 2000.

I constantly remind myself that my existence and growth so far was the result of the labour of my parents and other men and women I have met in the course of my life. Therefore it is imperative that I live for others too and strive to build a legacy of service to humanity.

As early as 1996, I had the privilege of serving the Kaduna Branch of Nigerian Bar Association as Auditor, a position I held till 1998. I was the alternate Chairman of the Protocol Sub-Committee of Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2010 NBA Annual General Conference among key roles and membership of several committees of Branch. I was a pioneer member of the Barnawa branch and have contributed immensely to its growth since inauguration. I had the privilege to chair the Organizing Committee of its maiden Law Week in 2018.

I was co-opted into the prestigious National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association since 2006 till 2012 and in 2016 till date. I attended all NEC meetings during the aforementioned period.

I was elected as the National Welfare Secretary of the NBA in 2014 and served meritoriously till 2016.

As the Welfare Secretary, I designed and implemented a seamless and well coordinated system of allocation of rooms to delegates at NEC and other Bar events in which delegates were informed of their accommodation arrangements well before the arrival date. I was also instrumental to the creation and implementation of a Life insurance policy managed by the National Secretariat. I also created a partnership with notable Hotels to provide affordable accommodation for lawyers visiting the Federal Capital territory at a discounted rate.

I believe fervently that whoever renders selfless service to the people puts himself in the line for greatness and in my continuing quest to serve; I hereby present myself to serve the Bar as General Secretary.

The office of General Secretary is no doubt the nerve center for coordination and implementation of policies for all time development of the Bar. The office is expected to be manned by an Experienced, Matured, Committed and accessible Bar Man.

My noble intention to serve as the General Secretary is to achieve what I reckoned as hugely important to ensure the NBA of our dream.

If entrusted with your mandate, I will bring on board a unique wealth of experience garnered over the years in my service to the Bar. We will run a secretariat that will be more efficient, more responsive and completely tailored towards meeting the yearnings of our teeming members and of a 21st century in line with international best practices.

To ensure the NBA of our dream, the following among other things are my actions plan towards achieving my mission and vision for the NBA:

1. Responsive and effective NBA Secretariat.
2. Efficient and effective information management system between the National secretariat and all branches.
3. Develop new strategies for continuity and sustainability of programs due to changes in the leadership of the NBA.
4. Prompt delivery of minutes and reports at least one month before every NEC and AGM.
5. Moving for the creation of wealth for young lawyers through windows of opportunities provided in new legislations
6. Moving for the creation of platform for production of online NBA Stamp and prompt delivery of Stamps to lawyers within 48 hours of receipt of application.

a. by notification through short messages to lawyers
b. by direct delivery to lawyers (who requires it ) in their offices.
7. Establish and constantly update the date base of all lawyers and make it assessable to the whole world.

Worthy Bar Leaders, Learned Seniors and colleagues, I remind you of my resourcefulness, dedication and selfless service to the Bar as your Welfare Secretary and urge you to rely on that as primary evidence of my ability to discharge the enormous duties of the office of General Secretary if entrusted with the mandate.

Together we can ensure the NBA of our dream.
